What the Archive Keeps

Nothing that could tell it who you are.

This site is anonymous by construction. It does not ask for your name, your email, or any detail of your person, and so it holds none. There are no trackers, no advertising, no analytics watching where you go, and nothing is ever sold or shared — because there is nothing to sell or share. The Arcanum of Zühl is free and non-commercial, and means to stay that way.

We collect no personal information. We cannot leak, sell, or surrender what we never took. This is not a promise to guard your data — it is the absence of any data to guard.

What stays on your own device

So the archive can remember where you left off, a few things are written into your browser's own storage — never sent anywhere, never seen by us:

your ribbon bookmarks and the page you last read in a volume;
a private record of what you have read or heard, which quietly opens further doors (this is the archive's only measure of a seeker);
whether you have passed the gate.

Clear your browser's site data and all of it is gone — from the only place it ever was.

Why a seal, and why a word

Should you one day wish your progress to follow you from one device to another, the archive offers an account — and here is the whole reason it works the way it does. We still take no email and no name. Instead:

the archive gives you a Word of Passage — a phrase it generates for you to keep, as a lodge keeps its word. Speak it to return. It is the account; we store only a one-way hash of it, never the word itself.
on devices that support it, you may bind a Seal (a passkey) for a touch-to-enter convenience. We keep only its public key — useless to anyone, and never your fingerprint or face, which never leave your device.

An account is always optional; the whole school works without one. And because we hold no email, there is no password to reset and no way for us to recover a lost Word — the mysteries do not issue duplicates. Keep it as you would a key.

What the server sees

Serving any page leaves ordinary, transient traces at our host (Cloudflare) — the request itself, an approximate region, the kind of browser. We keep no logs of our own beyond what is required to serve the page and keep it standing, and we join none of it to any person. If you write to the Keeper by the parchment petition, we receive only what you choose to write.

If this page ever ceases to be true, it is a mistake to be fixed, not a policy to be revised. Tell the Keeper.
